Trip Report - Eddie Wide

Eddie Wide III is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound RB/CB prospect from Cimarron-Memorial High School in Las Vegas, and Wide took an official visit to Washington this weekend - his first visit of the recruiting process. With nothing to compare it to yet, what did Wide think of the great Northwest?

Wide gave the trip an 8. "I really didn't want to rate it too high, but really - everything was cool," he told Scout.com Sunday night. "Everything went pretty good up there. I liked it up there. All the guys up there are real people. Everything they did was with character. That was good."

Wide flew into Seattle with his father, Eddie, Jr. on Friday morning. "We went and ate at the Space Needle and then we went to take a tour of the campus and then we went out with our hosts," Wide said. "My host was Roy Lewis. He's a good guy. He told me that everyone there likes to win and they are gonna win because of their work ethic."

Wide had one highlight that stood out. "We went to the stadium (Husky Stadium)," he said. "That was huge and nice. I like that."

The Vegas native is being recruited as a corner by the Huskies, something he's comfortable with. "I'm cool with that because I love to hit people," he said, matter-of-factly.

Since Wide didn't know much about the Huskies or their program before this weekend, it was one big fact-finding mission. A big part of that was talking to the UW staff. "I was just asking them about the school and the team and the tradition and the chemistry, stuff like that," he said.

The same was true for Eddie's father. "He liked it because they had a player panel just for the parents, where there were no coaches," said the younger Wide. "It was just parents asking players about Washington and the transition from high school and college, like moving. He had fun with that."

The Huskies have offered Wide a scholarship, but they were in no hurry for a commitment. "They want me to make the right decision, where I feel comfortable and where I want to play," he said.

Wide will trip out to Utah this next weekend, and then shut things down for the holidays. He did have an official visit set up for WSU the first week in January, but Eddie hasn't heard from the Cougars in the past couple of weeks, so he's not sure about that trip. He'll be playing that weekend in a bowl game in Louisiana, so if he does visit Washington State, it would be at a later date anyways.

UNLV and Oregon State are two other schools Wide mentioned as other schools he may visit before rendering a final decision.

"I want to take as many visits as I can before I make my decision," he said. "I want to compare things and make sure it's the right place for me."
