Huskies to get Ballman's signature today

The need for a kicker and punter in the 2007 class became very important when redshirt sophomore Ryan Perkins suffered a torn ACL in last year's spring game. Washington has already gotten a verbal from high school phenom Erik Folk and two weeks ago, Grossmont's Jared Ballman committed to the Huskies on his official visit.

"I had kicking practice this morning and later on this afternoon I'll be signing my letter for Washington," Ballman told Dawgman.com. "The coaches told me on my visit that they were really excited to get me in in January so I can work on thing and be ready for spring ball.

"I'm excited that my hard work has paid off. Now I'm ready to work even harder and really help the Huskies in every way I can."

In 2006, Ballman averaged 40.8 yards on 31 punts and also did some kickoff chores for Grossmont. He's never had a kickoff returned. That includes four years of high school and two years of college.

Ballman said he is being recruited by Washington as a punter but is open to kicking if that is where he is needed most.
