Armelin has Husky offer and visit scheduled

It's that time of year when players will come out of the woodwork to earn offers from programs trying to finish out their class to fill needs and Alemany (Mission Hills, Ca.) OL Mark Armelin is a player who has been recruited by Washington for a while, but now he's ready to take a visit to Montlake and he could be making a decision very soon.

"The Huskies have been recruiting me since the summer," Armelin told "They offered me a little while ago and they're a school that has been there for a while with me and that means a lot."

Armelin goes 6-4, 285 and he's a player that could play anywhere along the offensive line.

"Fresno State told me I could play tackle, guard or center," Armelin said. "Washington told me they like me at tackle right now because of my quick feet and the potential I have to grow.

"Either is fine with me. I just like getting after it and I like the aggressive schemes at both schools."

Washington has held a special place in Armelin's heart since he began to learn about the school and he said that is where he was leaning before his visit this past weekend to check out what the Bulldogs had to offer.

"Coach (Pat) Hill is a great, hard-nosed coach," Armelin said. "My parents went up there with me and he told us that he's liked me for a while but they take their time with offering guys and he also told me how they recruit and how the Pac 10 recruits.

"I really enjoyed myself up there."

This coming weekend Armelin heads to Seattle on his official visit and he'll have his parents in-tow as well.

"It's important that they have a say in what their feelings are about where I go to school," Armelin said. "It's my decision, but I want my parents to feel good about it too. They will respect what I decide, but they will tell me what they think."

Armelin has good physical stats to go with his impressive size benching 315 pounds and running a 5.0 40-yard dash recently.

"I'm pretty agile and the coaches like my mobility and quickness," Armelin said. "I used to wrestle and that helps too. I also throw the shot and discus just to stay in shape. I'm not very good at it, but it's fun and it's a precision sport so it helps with your footwork and stuff like that."

After his trip to Washington, Armelin said he'll wait to see if Oregon State offers him or not.

"They said they liked me and they wanted me to visit, but I'm thinking about just deciding between Washington and Fresno State," Armelin said. "Before I went up to FSU, I was pretty set on going to Washington, but they gave me some stuff to think about.

"I'll know a lot more after my visit to Washington."

We'll have more from Armelin after his visit to Washington this weekend.
