Quotes - UW/Stanford

Here's what Washington Head Coach Lorenzo Romar and Stanford Head Coach Trent Johnson had to say, as well as quotes from some UW and Stanford players, as the Cardinal were able to defeat Washington 78-77 at Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto, Calif., Thursday night.

Lorenzo Romar:
On the game: They hurt us with their penetration and dishing off. The Lopez' certainly know how to finish. And we were probably our own worst enemy down the stretch.

On the final five minutes: We didn't play smart, I'll leave it at that.

On overcoming a rough start: We settled down and began to do a better job overall.

On Justin Dentmon: Justin played exceptional basketball tonight. He was just playing within himself and was playing with a work ethic. He was focused and he tried to work hard.

On being 1-4 in conference: We've got to move on to the next game, we can't dwell on being 1-4.

On the improvement of Stanford as the season has progressed: For one they got Brook (Lopez) back. That definitely makes them better right away. You go up a couple notches with somebody of his caliber returning. With two of them in there at the same time, we knew when they recruited them that (the Lopez's) were going to have their day in the Pac-10 and they were going to keep getting better and better.
Spencer Hawes:
On playing with so many seven footers: Yeah (it was strange), but that's no excuse. You have to be ready against anything and everything. I wasn't tonight.

On the final five minutes: They made more plays than we did down the stretch.

On the mood of the team: It's not great but we have an opportunity to bounce back against Cal and do what we have to do.
Stanford Head Coach Trent Johnson:
On Jon Brockman: Jon is a handful. He's been playing like that since he was five years old.
Robin Lopez:
On Brockman and Hawes: Spencer is talented offensively and Jon is just relentless on the boards. It kept the game really close.
