DeCastro enjoys visit to Montlake

We've said it a lot this spring, the state of Washington is very deep this year with talent along the offensive line. Prospects from the eastside of the state to the south Puget Sound are hearing from schools up and down the west coast and across the country. One that has already reeled in six offer is Bellevue's David DeCastro and he's become a focal point for the two in-state schools.

DeCastro attended Washington's spring game the last weekend of April and said he enjoyed his time on campus even though he's already spent a lot of time there because of it's close proximity.

"It was a lot of fun," DeCastro told recently. "It was really good because I got to meet with coach (Tyrone) Willingham and he got to meet my mom for the first time because she hadn't been able to talk with him before.

"We talked about football and what he likes and expects out of his players. He also talked about where the program is going and that they really are focusing on the in-state guys this year and that they like what I bring to the table."

DeCastro claims offers from Washington, Washington State, Stanford, Boise State, Arizona and Oregon State and, while that is a solid list of options, he's ready to take his time and take visits before he ultimately decides where he'll play his college ball.

"It's great to get all of those offers this early and have those options, but I'm not in a hurry," DeCastro said. "That doesn't mean I might not make an early decision, but I think I'll probably end up taking all my visits to check out the schools and see what each has to offer."

As far as camps, DeCastro plans to attend the Nike camp at Oregon in June and he may attend one or two individual camps at the different schools he is considering.

"I haven't really thought much about that just yet, but I know I need to soon," DeCastro said. "I might head to a camp or two, but I'm just not sure at this point."

One thing is for sure, the young man from the eastside has staked his claim at the top of the lineman prospect list in the Evergreen State.
