Turner ready to shine

Kentridge (Wa.) athlete Brandon Turner is a patient young man. One of the better athletes in the state of Washington, Turner doesn't have a football scholarship offer to his name...yet. However, things could be changing very quickly and Dawgman.com spoke to Turner recently and here's what he had to say...

"I've been talking with Washington a lot," Turner said. "Coach (Mike) Denbrock and I text each other all the time and he's let me know where I stand with them and what they are doing.

"They said they really want to see me in camp and to just watch me perform there and then I should know something after that. I have a really good relationship with he coaches there and they are really close to home which is important."

Turner's high school team also camps at Washington State and he said he's pretty much hearing the same thing from the Cougar coaching staff.

"They said they are looking forward to seeing me up close and to be able to evaluate me on campus," Turner said. "If I do well there, then I think I can get an offer from them as well."

Turner played wide receiver and defensive back for the Chargers last year, but this year he'll be at quarterback, leading his team. Has that changed some people's minds where he could end up playing in college?

"Florida State, North Carolina and Florida have all started to send me stuff which was really weird," Turner said. "I was really surprised to get that stuff. Because I'm playing quarterback, they all want to see what I can do and they have said they like me as an athlete because I could play almost anywhere.

"I could be a wide receiver, cornerback, safety, or almost anything. All of those schools have asked for film on me and to see what type of player I am, so we're working on that right now."

Turner was attending his brother Trey's graduation on Saturday and said it's a strange experience to watch and one that he's preparing for next year himself.

"Watching him walk is going to be fun," Turner said. "He's graduating this year and I'll be doing the same thing next year. In a way I'm excited, but in another way it's just strange to think I'll be doing it in a year too."

With that in his future, Turner said he's excited to see where he could be headed to play his college football and he wants to decide as soon as possible.

"I want to decide before my season and I could make a decision, depending on who offers me, by the end of the month," Turner said. "I have a good idea of where I want to go and if that school offers I think I will make the decision pretty quick."

We'll have more from Turner in the coming weeks.
