Huskies make impression on Ingram

The Husky coaching staff is scouring the country for talented players and recently, their search for talented prospects has taken them to Flint (Mi.) Southwestern Academy and namely RB Mark Ingram. If that name rings a bell, it should – his father played at Michigan State with current Washington receivers coach Charlie Baggett – and that's a big reason Ingram has the Dawgs high on his list.

"Oh, I'm really high on Washington," Ingram said recently. "They are a good school with a great tradition and coach Baggett and my dad played together so he's kind of talked to me about coming out there and checking things out.

"Me and my dad will be out there at the end of the month. I think it'll be on the 25th and 26th and I'll take part in their individual camp to show them what I can do.

"I'm also heading to Ohio State's individual camp as well. That's next week."

Ingram exploded on the scene earlier this month when he posted a blistering 4.38 forty time at the Michigan State camp and with his running ability and versatility, he's likely to end up being a hot commodity before he makes his final college choice.

"I have eight offers right now," Ingram said. "Washington, Michigan State, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, Toledo, Central Michigan and Cincinnati have all offered me.

"Florida, Florida State and Iowa are also recruiting me pretty hard and they all are looking at me to play running back and then move if I needed to so that I could get on the field.

"I can play either running back or wide receiver or even some corner. It sorta just depends on where a team wants me to play, but if you asked me what I preferred, well that's pretty easy – running back."

Ingram's father being a former NFL player, Mark spent lots of time hanging around with pro players and is very close to one Hall-of-Fame quarterback's kids.

"Dan Marino's kids and I always played together when we were kids," Ingram said. "They lived right down the street from us when my dad played in Miami, so we went and threw the ball around a lot and just hung out. They are some of my closest friends."

After he finishes camping this month, Ingram plans to head to Florida in July to check out the Gators and the Seminoles.

"I have to call and set things up with them just to make sure what days they want me to come down and check things out," Ingram said. "They're great programs and the Gators just won the national championship so you have to look at a program like that pretty hard."

Ingram boasts a solid frame (5-10, 200) and a 36-inch vertical leap as well as a 305 pound bench press.

"I'm working on my strength and agility and quickness all the time," Ingram said. "That can only get you better when you work hard every chance you get. I'm excited about this coming year at Southwestern and I want to finish my high school career on a high note.

"I love to use my size to punish tacklers, but I can use my speed to get outside and just take it to the house. I'm also a pretty good receiver so my team likes to get me the ball on the edge a lot and in space so that I can take advantage of those situations."

As a junior last year at Grand Blanc High School, Ingram posted over 800 yards on the ground and 15 touchdowns and added 250 yards receiving and two more scores receiving.

We'll have more from Ingram later this month after he finishes up his camp circuit.
