Williams - 'I'm not wavering at all'

Corey Williams got some phone calls in September. Phone calls from schools like Washington State. UCLA. Oregon. Texas Tech. Arizona. They were all polite and wanted to know how Corey was doing. Apparently they didn't get the news. Williams is off the market.

"I got a lot of calls," Williams told Dawgman.com. "I talked to my coach. He said that the first thing I should tell them is that you're committed to Washington. They are all surprised when I told them. They are like, 'What did you do that for?' It was hard to tell them all, but I'm committed and I don't want any surprises. I'm a firm commit. I'm not wavering at all."

Las Vegas High started their season couple of weeks ago, and as you would expect from the defending state 4A champs. "We've been practicing hard," he said. "We got off to a rough start but we came out with a win. We're 3-0." In his first game Corey had 2 catches for 35 yards against Cimarron-Memorial. He also had 8 tackles and a pick. "The second game was better," he said about LV's 41-6 win over Clark. "I had 8 catches for 86 yards and a touchdown."

This past weekend against Green Valley, Williams returned a kickoff 86 yards for a score and also had two touchdown receptions in the same quarter. Believe it or not, Williams is also punting as well as being a punt returner and kickoff returner. He had a 52-yarder against Clark with no roll.

Corey has been watching his future teammates on TV when he can. "They played good," he said about Washington's last-second loss to Michigan. "I was thinking I could have helped them out with the deep balls. I like Reggie Williams a lot. He's got my last name and he's another big receiver."

The Huskies have been thinking about Corey too. "Coach Neuheisel called last night. I wasn't home but he did talk to my father."

Any last words for the fans up north, Corey? "That I'm not wavering from my commitment and I really like Washington," he said without hesitation. He may try and take his official visit later this month but he hasn't set the trip up yet.
