Recruiting heats up for Shaw

One of the more underrated players in the Evergreen State is Lewis and Clark LB Alex Shaw. He's been having a great season for the Tigers and he's just now started to see recruiting pick up as well. Dawgman.com spoke to him recently and he talked about recruiting and what he's looking forward to over the next few months.

"Our season has been going really well so far," Shaw said on Tuesday night. "I've been really focused on being a leader on defense and we're trying to win a championship so my teammates and I are really focused on our team goal."

While Shaw admitted he didn't know his stats because "I'm more worried about our team and getting a 'W' than my stats", he does have over 60 tackles on the season while leading his team to a 5-1 record.

"Our only loss so far has been to Ferris and that one was tough, but we've been playing really well," Shaw said. "We've got a couple of big games coming up this and that will hopefully get us to the playoffs and then we'll have a chance to do something big then."

Shaw plays the middle linebacker spot in Lewis and Clark's 4-4 scheme and at 6-2, 216 pounds with a 4.6 forty time, he's a player teams have started to turn up the heat on.

Shaw said that Idaho State is the only team to extend an offer to him, but schools like Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Arizona, Stanford, Idaho, Montana and Eastern Washington have all been making contact and asking for highlight tape.

"I'm not real concerned with that stuff right now," Shaw admitted. "I went to Idaho for their game against Hawaii and that was fun even though they lost.

"My brother (Josh) plays up there so it was really just about seeing him and hanging out with him."

Husky defensive line coach Randy Hart is the coach recruiting Shaw for Washington, but he two have yet to make contact.

"He called me recently, but he had to leave a message because I wasn't around when he called," Shaw said. "I need to call him, but he's been inviting me over for games to come and check them out. I have a lot of stuff going on so it's going to be tough to get over there during my season, but I might make it over for the Apple Cup because it's right after Thanksgiving this year.

"I'm also going to try and make it out to Washington State for a game, but I just have to set that up as well."

Shaw reports a 3.8 GPA and scored a 1650 on his first attempt at the SAT.

This weekend Lewis and Clark faces off against East Valley (Spokane).
