Wright expecting offer from Washington soon

Eric Wright is a 6-2, 175-pound safety prospect from Glendale Community College in Glendale, Arizona, and football runs in his family. Wright's cousin Toby played for Nebraska and then in the NFL. Eric didn't get a lot of looks out of Chandler High School in Chandler, Arizona, but with legit 4.45 speed his has colleges from all over the country watching him now.

"Things are pretty good right now," Wright told Dawgman.com last night. "We just had a real hard-fought loss to Snow 14-11." Eric graduates in May, so he'll be available in the fall of 2003 with 3 years to play 2.

"Recruiting has picked up a lot," he said about the process. "Indiana, Arizona, Washington, San Diego State, Idaho State, Kentucky and Temple are the schools that have called. I want to stay in the area. I want to play in the Pac-10."

Despite that thought, Wright is having to look to the midwest and east right now as his best possibilities, but the Huskies are quickly moving up his wish list. Eric will travel to Indiana on an official visit 11/15 when the Hoosiers take on Penn State. "I will probably take a trip to Temple in either late December or early January," he said. "I also am going to set a trip up with Washington, but not sure on the date yet."

Steve Axman is recruiting Wright for the Dawgs. "I talked to him last Friday," Eric said. "He told me that they are very interested in me and that they will most likely offer but that they are still watching film. He said they like the fact that I can play run and cover. He seemed excited about me."

When it comes down to it, there's only one real pre-requisite for Wright's eventual college selection. "I just want to go somewhere where we can have a winning season," he said. "I want to be able to make it and get my degree."
