Trip Report: Carl Moore

The Huskies rarely host official visitors during the season, but one they made an exception for this past weekend was Sierra College WR Carl Moore. The gifted wideout from northern California was on campus for last weekend's 37-23 victory over Cal and we caught up with him to talk about his visit and where things stand as far as recruiting is concerned.

"Oh man, I had a great time," Moore said. "The game was great. I had a feeling Washington was going to win because Cal just didn't look like they came to play.

"Washington was really physical with them and Louis Rankin had a great day so it doesn't surprise me they won. When you can run the ball like they did, you're going to win a lot of games."

Moore's host on his visit was LB Donald Butler and old friend from his high school days.

"Don and me knew each other in high school," Moore said. "He's a good guy and we get along good.

"I visited Washington while I was in high school with my teammate James Montgomery, so this really wasn't about me getting to know the program. It was about me getting a feel for the staff and where the program is. I had never met coach (Charlie) Baggett before or coach (Tim) Lappano so it was good getting to know them a little better since they will be the coaches that hang with the most."

After he took in Washington's win, Moore said he got a chance to sit down and talk with Washington head man Tyrone Willingham.

"He's so easy to talk to," Moore said. "I'd met with him and talked with him before, but he's really gotten used to being up here now and he really seems to have the team headed in the right direction

"I would have to say sitting down and talking with him after the game was the highlight of my trip. It's great to talk to a coach and not have him pressure you and really show you why you should go there instead of why you shouldn't go somewhere else."

With is visit to Washington out of the way, Moore now heads to Gainesville this weekend to take in the Florida's game against Florida State.

"They have a great offense and a talented quarterback in Tim Tebow," Moore said. "He and Jake (Locker) are a lot alike and both schools have told me they need more good players for their QBs to throw to.

"After that I don't have any more visits set up, but I may try and set up a visit with Oregon and possibly Cal.

"I've been up to Cal so much that I'm not sure if I need to see them again, but I might do that. I need to make a decision soon though."

Moore said while he was in Seattle he wasn't tempted to make a commitment and that he isn't ready to name a leader at this point.

"My visit was great, but I didn't go up there with any intention of committing," Moore said. "Washington and all the other schools I'm still looking at are about equal. Each one has their pluses and minuses so no one is really sticking out.

"After my visits I'm going to sit down with my family and make a decision. I probably won't name a leader until December 15th because I'll sign that day and then everyone will know."

We'll continue to follow Moore's recruitment over the next three weeks and update things as they develop.
