Trip Report: A.J. Pickens

Don Lugo CB/WR A.J. Pickens is heading down the home stretch of recruiting and his second to last visit was this weekend when he headed to Seattle to take in 48-hours at the University of Washington. He came away impressed with what he saw while he was in the Emerald City, but said that he still wants to take his last visit before he makes a decision.

"We had a lot of fun, but it was cold," Pickens said with a laugh. "It was freezing up there, but the weather isn't going to have anything to do with where I end up playing.

"My host was Brandon Johnson who I've known since I was a little kid from running track and playing ball and then Tyreese Breshers is a commit up there for basketball and my cousin (Dominique Blackman) has already committed there so I would have a lot of familiar faces around me if I went there."

Pickens said he was well-fed on his trip and that the highlight was getting to know all the players and the other recruits.

"You kind of have a bond with guys who you are being recruited with," Pickens said. "It was cool hanging out with them and getting to know them.

"I also sat down with coach (Tyrone) Willingham and we talked about me playing receivers and that they are losing a bunch of guys at that position so they need a playmaker like me."

Pickens has already taken visits to Arizona State and Arizona and he'll take his final visit to Oregon State next weekend.

"I'll take my trip to OSU next weekend and then come back home and get ready to make a decision," Pickens said. "I don't have a favorite, but Washington is right up there with everyone.

"I would like to make a decision before Christmas so that will probably be made in a couple of weeks I'd say."

We'll continue to follow Pickens' progress over the next few weeks as he gets ready to make his decision.
