Bellflower is 6-0, 3-0 in league and just beat Cabrillo 29-22. Nichols is pencilling in a couple of upcoming games that will spell the difference between a championship trophy or a trip home. "Either Cerritos or La Mirada," he told Dawgman.com last night.
Nichols is playing both ways, as a tight end on offense and a linebacker on defense. So far he has 12 catches for 215 yards
and 8 touchdowns. "I've been able to help the team out a lot more on offense, so that's been nice," he said. From his linebacker
position he has 2 sacks.
College coaches have been coming by and letting John know they are interested in his services. "They like how I get to the ball and
how I hustle all the way through the whistle," he said. Contact has been coming from Arizona, Washington, Colorado State, San
Diego State, Colorado, Arizona State and Oregon and he currently has offers from Colorado State, Washington, Portland State and
UW's linebackers coach Cornell Jackson is recruiting Nichols for the Huskies. "They are recruiting me as a linebacker," he said. He
wants me to come in, run to the ball hard and make plays."
John is going to take trips and wait until the season is over before that happens. "Oregon, Colorado State, Washington, Fresno
State and one other school," he said when asked which schools he'll visit. "The last trip is still open."
And a leader? "I like Colorado State a lot right now," he said. "The coaching staff has been around there for a long time and they
have a good program."
Nichols has already taken the SAT and is fully qualified.
