Trip Report: Dominique Blackman

One of the biggest early commits to the Washington Huskies this past summer was when Carson QB Dominique Blackman said "yes" to their scholarship offer. The big man from Southern California finally made the trip north to check out his college choice and he came away impressed. He had a tentative visit scheduled for Arizona State...is he still visiting Tempe? Read on to find out...

"I'm solid to Washington," Blackman told Dawgman.com while sitting at his hotel waiting to go to the airport. "I had a trip planned to go to Arizona State, but I'm not going anymore.

"I canceled it right after I talked to coach (Tyrone) Willingham."

Blackman said he and both of his parents sat down with the Husky head man and they talked about football, school and life in general.

"He's always so positive and very encouraging and focused on the future," Blackman said. "My parents loved the trip and talking to him and so did I."

Blackman's host was RB Brandon Johnson who he's known for quite some time.

"Me and Brandon are cool," Blackman said. "He and I have known each other for a long time and so he just showed me around and where things were.

"We got to hang with the other player and play video games in the lounge. We got a feel for what it was like to be a player and what there is to do."

Blackman said in order for him to re-affirm his commitment to the Huskies, he needed to see and get a feel for two things.

"The weather and the academics," Blackman noted. "I wanted to make sure I could handle it up here with the weather and also I wanted to check out the support they have for the academics.

"Football will take care of itself, so I wasn't too worried about that stuff. But the assistance they have for school and the focus they put on it was real important to me and my parents and they do a really good job with that stuff."

Blackman and the other commits were also working on the uncommitted players like Donovan Carter, Kurt Mangum and Mykenna Ikehara as well.

"Yeah, we were working on them, trying to get them to be Huskies," Blackman said. "Donovan is right here (next to him at the hotel) so I'm still talking to him about it."

Blackman said he and his family will have some pictures from signing day when he signs his letter-of-intent to play for Washington.
