Barrington hopes to make name for himself

After a big junior campaign, Federal Way RB Andre Barrington is ready to show colleges as well as scouting services exactly what he's got. He took in the Junior Day festivities at the University of Washington a little over two weeks ago and he talked about recruiting as well as what type of back fans will see when he takes the field this coming fall.

"I'd say I'm a balanced back," Barrington told recently. "I mean, I can run inside or outside and I can catch the ball. I can do whatever a team needs me to do."

As a junior in 2007, Barrington used his excellent frame (6-1, 198) and athleticism (4.6 speed) to rush for 1,028 yards and 13 scores while also posting eight receptions for 188 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver.

He also was named First Team All-SPSL 4A North as a running back and Second Team All-SPSL 4A North as a defensive back while helping lead Federal Way to the playoffs.

"I'm a hitter on defense and I had two interceptions," Barrington added. "I like playing both so I'm pretty much open to playing wherever a school seems to think I fit best."

On the recruiting front, Barrington said three schools have been the ones to make the most contact with letters and invites to camps and junior days.

"Washington, Oregon and California are the main ones so far," Barrington said. "I went to Washington's junior day and it was a lot of fun.

"I had a really good time. I met the coaches and I got to see the weight room and a lot of the facilities and that's stuff that I never had really seen before so it was cool to check that stuff out.

"I'm going to the Scout 7-on-7 camp down at UNLV next month (March 15th and 16th) and then I'm kind of open to checking out different schools and their camps. I haven't really made a decision on any camps other than my team camp and I'm not sure where we are having that this year."

Barrington is also a standout on the hardcourt (8.3 ppg) and he and his Federal Way teammates will be taking part in the 4A State Championship tournament starting on Wednesday.

We'll continue to follow Barrington's progress over the next couple of months and update things as they happen.
