Brown has his eye on the Huskies

The Huskies have brought in a plethora of backs the past two seasons, but that isn't preventing them from taking a look at some of the top backs on the west coast. Newbury Park RB Chris Brown is just such a player and he's got some Washington ties. spoke with the playmaking back and he talked about recruiting and when he hopes to make his decision.

"Things have been coming along for me," Brown told "Recruiting has been picking up and I really feel like some offers could be on the way pretty soon."

Schools like Alabama, Oregon, Oregon State, USC, California, UNLV, Nevada, Arizona, UCLA, Washington State and San Diego State have made inquiries and contact with Brown, but it's a school from the Puget Sound that has him intrigued so far.

"Washington is where my brother (Da'Juan Hawkins) played so I know a lot about them," Brown said. "I went to the bowl game they played in (Ohau Classic follwing the 1998 season) and I got to hang out with the Tuiasosopos and all of the families that had kids on the team.

"I really like them a lot and coach (Chris) Tormey said they like what I have to offer and they are evaluating me."

Arizona has told Brown they like him at corner and that intrigues the talented Brown who posted 1,908 yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground while adding 353 yards receiving and two touchdowns as a receiver.

"I love to be challenged and playing DB is something that is fun and challenging," Brown said. "I just want to get on the field and help my team win, so I'm basically open to playing anywhere a team needs me."

Brown will visit Arizona for its spring game and he'll also take in the B2G Elite Football camp as well as the Nike Combine at Oregon and the USC Rising Juniors camp in June.

"I want to commit early so I can focus on getting ready for my senior season and on school," Brown said. "I'd like to commit before summer so I'm hoping all the schools who want me will offer me before then so I can make a decision.

"San Diego State said they are real close to offering and getting that first offer means a lot, so whoever steps up early will be right at the top for me. I don't really have any favorites right now.

"Washington, Oregon, Alabama, USC and UNLV are the ones I really like the most and Oregon was a school I dreamed of going to, but that was more because of their uniforms than anything else. I'm looking for a good (coaching) staff, a good bunch of players to be around and a quality education. My parents are being me 100-percent wherever I want to go."

We'll continue to track Brown over the coming weeks and months and update things as they change.
