Simone pulls in offer number two

It's been a waiting game for one of the top Evergreen State football prospects and Skyline WR Gino Simone's patience is paying off. He already had one offer under his belt and earlier today, the talented wideout from the Sammamish plateau got his second offer, but this one was a little closer to home.

"I got an email from Washington State last night and they asked me to call them so I tried them this morning," Simone told "I talked to coach (Travis) Niekamp for a while and then he put coach (Paul) Wulff on the phone and he and I talked for a bit and that's when they offered me.

"He basically told me that he liked what I had to offer and that I would bring something to their program that isn't there right now. It was pretty cool getting to talk to them and getting the offer, definitely."

Simone also noted that he's still hearing a lot from Washington and that he's hoping to talk to them soon as well.

"I tried calling (Steve Gervais) yesterday, but I guess he's down in Florida or something," Simone said. "They are still sending me a lot of stuff and I've been talking to them a lot so they are still recruiting me pretty hard."

Other schools who have picked up the pace in recruiting include California, Oregon State, Idaho, Stanford and Arizona State among others.

Last weekend, while taking on some of the top talent from across the west, Simone was considered the top wideout at the Badger/New Level Las Vegas Camp as he helped lead the Washington team to the championship game and was named to the All-Camp team for his efforts.

"It was a lot of fun and it was a real eye-opener for me," Simone said. "Before that camp, I wasn't real sure if I was a Pac 10 guy, but then I took on the guys from the California team and they have like five guys who are already committed to USC and I thought I made them work pretty hard.

"I went up against Cliff Harris, who is the number two corner in the entire country, and I gave him a good workout. He actually came up after the game and said some really cool things about how I played and what I did out there."

Simone also updated us on his size.

"I'm a legit six feet now -- I might even be a little taller -- and I'm up to 176," Simone noted. "I'm basically in the weight room every day now and I'm eating more often and I'm eating well, so it's been easier to keep the weight on."

Simone noted that he doesn't expect to make a decision before his season starts, saying he'd like to take his visits before he makes any sort of a decision.

We'll continue to follow his progress and update things as they develop.
