Brown has top-5

Kevin Brown is a 6-2, 290-pound lineman for Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, and even though the Jackrabbits have been steamrolling the competition Brown has been suffering a bit. The reason? The dreaded injury bug. But now Brown is back and ready to take on the rest of the season as close to 100 percent as he's going to get.

"I started the season pretty bad," Brown told "I sprained my ankle, and I didn't play much through the first four games. After that I've been playing mostly offense and it's OK so far." His injury didn't stop him from making sure he went to Hawaii as LBP took care of business against Kahuku. "It was a great experience, meeting different people," he said of his trip to the islands. "It was nice to get out and see how other people are, how friendly they are. It was beautiful too."

There's one main thing Kevin has this year over last. "Mainly maturity," he said. "Being a senior I had to step up and take a leader's role. And I've gotten a little bit stronger, a little more aggressive. I'm playing defense now, so I need to be a little bit more energetic and I have to work harder to have more endurance."

Every Pac-10 school except for Arizona has offered Kevin a scholarship, and he's being recruiting mainly on offense. He'll be taking an official visit to Oregon and one to Ohio State in January. "Right now I'm hoping to take a Florida State trip and a Syracuse trip and one to Oklahoma," Brown said.

Where does Washington fit into Kevin's plans? Or do they at all? "I got an offer a while ago," he said. "I haven't heard from the coaches lately, but I know there's an offer on the table. They are a great program."

Florida State is his current favorite, with USC, UCLA, Oregon and Oklahoma rounding out his top-5.
