Brown picks up first two offers

It's seemingly been a long wait for Newbury Park (Ca.) ATH Chris Brown, but on Tuesday night he got some good news when two schools came forward with his first official offers. He updated about where recruiting stands and also talked about what his plans this offseason might entail.

"Wyoming and Portland State just offered me," an excited Brown told Tuesday evening. "It's definitely a big weight off of my shoulders to get those first two offers and they are good programs, so it's encouraging."

Brown is an outstanding athlete. He finished his junior season with 1,904 yards on 318 carries and 22 touchdowns while helping to lead Newbury Park to the CIF-SS Northern Division semifinals.

Both schools offered Brown as an athlete and that's just fine with him.

"I love to be challenged and playing corner is something that would be challenging," Brown said. "I just want to get on the field and help my team win, so I'm basically open to playing anywhere a team needs me, whether that's as a receiver, as a safety, as a corner or as a running back or whatever, I just like to play."

In addition to his two offers, Brown said that Washington State, San Diego State, Washington and Oregon are the schools recruiting him the hardest.

"Washington State has really been coming on strong lately," Brown said. "Their coaches were down here and they said they like me a lot and that they would be getting back to me.

"San Diego State was here last week and they like me a lot and there's Washington who I've liked for a long time since my brother (DaJuan Hawkins) and cousin (Pat Reddick) played there."

As far as camps are concerned, Brown said he will likely hit the Stanford NIKE combine this weekend and then things are a little up in the air.

"I might go visit Arizona again this summer sometime and I'd like to get up to Oregon and check them out," Brown said. "Coach (Chris) Tormey said he'd like to get me up there to take a look at things and I might do that too.

"Things are still pretty much up in the air about unofficial visits, but things are coming along and I'll decide on those things here pretty soon."

Brown recently completed his track season and while he didn't know his 100 and 200 times, he said he managed a 20-1 long jump and a 38-9 triple jump.

We'll continue to follow his progress and update things as they change.
