Wallace filling some big shoes

CJ Wallace is a 6-0, 195-pound running back/safety pospect from Sacramento (Calif.) Grant, and if Grant High School sounds familiar to Pac-10 football fans, it should. It's Onterrio Smith's alma mater. And filling Smith's shoes might be a daunting task for most, but Wallace just takes it in stride. He's got plenty of game, witnessed by his four scholarship offers, with more sure to come.

"I like 'em both," CJ told Dawgman.com about his which side of the ball he likes best. "I like to handle my business both ways, so it doesn't matter to me." He's run for 1300 yards, 16 scores and has 65 tackles on defense, including 3 forced fumbles. Physically, Wallace benches 225 pounds 9 times and runs a 4.4 40. In track, his personal bests in the 100 and 200 are 10.8 and 21.8, respectively.

College coaches have taken notice, and four have offered scholarships - Washington, Fresno State, Oregon State and Illinois. "They like my work ethic and some like me because I'm tough," he said. "Washington and Fresno State are contacting me the most, but there's still a couple of schools that are contacting me every now and then. My favorite school is Michigan. I'm holding out for them, but if I don't hear from them I'll be taking my visits elsewhere."

He already has two official visits set up, to Washington (12/13) and Oregon State (11/23). "I've been to Seattle a couple of times," said Wallace. "My uncle (Ken Conley) lives up there. He used to go there and play. He played right before Warren Moon."
