Vickers sets up second trip

BJ Vickers is a 6-3, 205-pound athlete from Los Angeles (Calif.) Venice and when it comes to football he just picked up where he left off last season. As a junior, he caught over 1500 yards in passes. This year, you would assume teams would be more focused on stopping him, but Vickers is having none of it.

So far this season BJ has 58 catches for 1245 for 10 touchdowns for Venice. That's a 21.5 yards per reception average. "We start our first round playoffs this Thursday against Fremont," Vickers told He acknowledges that, while the numbers are gaudy, he hasn't been perfect. "There have been a lot of times where I've messed up this season, but so far it's been good."

On the recruiting front, BJ took an official trip to Oregon back in October and just set up his second official visit. This time he'll be heading a little farther north. He'll be visiting Washington the weekend of December 13. He still hears quite a bit from Receivers Coach Bobby Kennedy and Head Coach Rick Neuheisel.

"They tell me that I'm one of their top recruits and that they would like to have me up there," Vickers said. "They get the receivers the ball up there. I like the school and the coaching staff seems pretty cool."

But don't get the impression that BJ is close to making a decision. "I'm still wide open," he said.
