Huskies pull in So Cal signal-caller

It's taken a while, but Washington was able to pull in it's first commitment for the 2009 recruiting class as St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Ca.) QB Keith Price decided to become a Dawg on Wednesday afternoon. He spoke with shortly after making his decision and he couldn't have been more excited...

"I'm so pumped right now," and excited Price told shortly after making his decision. "I committed to Washington just this afternoon and it just really feels great."

Price attended Washington's individual skills camp at Montlake late last month and received an offer shortly thereafter.

"Getting that offer from Washington is really big," Price said at the time. "I already had an offer from Nevada and today I just got an offer from Utah, but I'm really liking Washington a lot."

Even with the interest from other schools picking up and the other offers, Price said he knew he wanted to be a Husky. "I called coach (Tyrone) Willingham to tell him, but he's at the Pac 10 media day so he couldn't take calls," Price said. "After that, I called coach (Tim) Lappano and he was really excited to have me in the boat.

"He told me they had a bunch of other guys they liked, but I was their first choice and that made me feel really good."

Price said that one of the reasons for his delay in deciding was because he was contemplating his future head coach's job security.

"Well, with coach Willingham's status I wanted to just think about things a little," Price said. "Then I just figured out, I was committing to the school and that I really want to be coached by this staff, but if not, the school is where I ultimately wanted to be.

"They have a great program up there and some really great young players to work with. I also really like the intensity of the coaches and how upbeat coach Lappano is. You can't help but want to play for him."

Being a leader on the field isn't all that Price wants to be. He also wants to be a leader with his recruiting class.

"I'm already calling guys and letting them know I'm in the boat," Price said. "I'm calling Kirby Moore this afternoon to let him know I'm going to U-Dub and he and I had a special bond when we were throwing the ball around at camp and he was catching everything I threw to him so I want a guy like that with me in my class.

"I'm going to be working on other guys I know too and I think we'll end up with a great class."

Price and his mother and grandmother will come to Seattle in 10 days to attend Washington's prospect day being held on August 2nd, so he can work on some of his fellow 2009 recruits while they are all on campus.

As a junior in 2007, Price completed 73 of 113 pass attempts for 955 yards and six touchdowns with four interceptions while also totalling over 300 yards and eight scores on the ground.
