Fellner enjoys visit to Montlake

Clovis West (Fresno) S Nate Fellner begins two-a-day practices with his team on Monday, but this past weekend he took a trip up to Seattle to check out the University of Washington. After returning from his visit he spoke with Dawgman.com and updated us on how his trip went and where things stand with recruiting.

"It was a really good visit," Fellner told Dawgman.com as he was driving home from the airport. "It was cool because my mom and I got to sit down and speak with coach (Tyrone) Willingham for a while and we talked about everything.

"He told me what kind of a person and player he's looking to bring into the program and what kind of a coach and person he is. It answered a lot of our questions."

Fellner also said he was impressed by the turnout at Picture Day on Saturday.

"That was really impressive and it showed me how much fan support they have up there in Seattle," Fellner said. "I just walked around and took it all in and just really enjoyed myself. I mean, I got the rain and the sun and the wind, it was all of the weather in one hour pretty much."

Fellner has offers from Washington, Stanford, San Diego State and Washington State and he said he hopes to be able to come back up to Seattle for an unofficial visit during the season.

"My dad hasn't been up there yet, so we might head up for a game if our schedules work out," Fellner said. "I'd love to get the atmosphere and see what things are like there on gameday.

"I'm definitely taking an official visit to Washington, but they like to schedule their official visits after the season, so that's when I will go up there for that."

Fellner was an all-purpose stud for Clovis West last season on both sides of the ball notching 454 yards rushing with three touchdowns and 292 yards receiving with two more touchdowns on 19 receptions.

Defensively, he had 26 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 interceptions.

While he only played two games on defense, Fellner said Husky DB coach J.D. Williams has compared him favorably to one of his former players.

"Washington said I could play either safety spot," Fellner said back in June when he was offered by the Huskies. "It just depends on where they need me and where I fit best.

"Coach Williams told me when he watched my highlights, I reminded him of Matt Giordano who played safety for him at Cal. He's playing for the Colts right now, so that was really cool to hear."

Fellner and his teammates begin their season on September 9th against Liberty-Bakersfield.
