Poly's Brown taking care of business

Kevin Brown is a 6-2, 290-pound lineman from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, and just like last year the Jackrabbits are steamrolling through the competition in the playoffs. They beat Edison in the first round 30-7 and play Eisenhower this weekend. And the sprained ankle that had hampered Brown's progress early in the season isn't bothering him anymore.

"I came back strong," Kevin told Dawgman.com. "I was a little slow early in the season. I was doing enough to get through but I've been stepping it up the past few weeks. I just need to step it up to another level for the playoffs." So far this year Brown has 40 tackles, 20 for loss, 9.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. On offense he has 92 pancake blocks so far.

With Brown being one of the top two-way linemen on the west coast, a lot of coaches are trying to get in to talk to Kevin about taking an official visit to their school. "My coaches have been talking about visits, but I don't know really what's going on," he said. "A lot of schools are talking about January."

He knows he'll be visiting Ohio State and UCLA in December, but doesn't have firm dates set. Oregon, Florida State and maybe Oklahoma or Nebraska are the other schools that may get a visit from Brown.

Schools from the state of Washington are still expressing an interest in Kevin. "Washington State has been calling but I haven't been receiving as many calls from Washington," he said. He has offers from everyone in the Pac-10 but Stanford and USC.
