SJB ATH has trip schedule nearly complete

Derrick Williams is a 5-11, 200-pound athlete from Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, and just like teammate Joe Cowan, the Washington Huskies are hitting SJB with a passion in hopes of landing a couple of the more versatile athletes in Southern California. In the case of Williams, he plays both running back and corner, and doesn't have a preference. If you ask the schools recruiting Derrick, they just want to get him on the field.

"Outside of the Pac-10, they seem to want me as a running back," Derrick told Thursday night. "But in the Pac-10, they are telling me I can play wherever I want to." He doesn't list a preference, but it's hard to overlook his obvious athleticism. He runs a 4.49 40, benches 375 pounds and jumps 32 inches in the vertical jump.

Colleges from up and down the west coast have been beating a path to Williams' door this week, including the Huskies. "A lot of coaches have come by lately," he said. "California and USC came by Monday, Oregon came by Tuesday, Washington and Arizona came by Wednesday and UCLA came by today."

Derrick has offers from UCLA, Oregon, Arizona, Colorado, Colorado State, Vanderbilt and California. "I've already been to Cal a couple of weeks ago," Williams said. He gave his official visit an 8 out of 10. "It was nice up there." He's got other visits set up for Oregon (12/13), Arizona (1/10) and Washington (1/17).

Cornell Jackson is the coach recruiting Williams for the Dawgs. "He just described the scenery up there, the program," Derrick said. "He talked about the academics and the school and what goes on up there. My Dad had a great time visiting with Coach Jackson."

Derrick plans on possibly visiting USC unofficially and is keeping his fifth visit open. He's very much wide open and ready for a school to make an impression on him during the recruiting process.
