Charles Smith trip report

Charles Smith is back in San Diego after his official visit to Washington this weekend and after the trip he's still pretty focused on the Huskies and Oregon Ducks. He didn't make a commitment on his trip, but that doesn't mean he's not thinking long and hard about making an announcement soon.

Smith rated his visit to Washington an '8' out of 10. The only thing that could have been better? "Well, it's just something that was on me," he told tonight. "Because of our game on Friday, Reggie (Bush) and I were pretty tired, so we didn't stay out late or do anything like that."

Smith, Bush and Helix destroyed Monte Vista 71-32 the night before the two were scheduled to take off for Seattle. It wasn't the best timing in the world, but Charles insists it didn't take away from the meat and potatoes of the visit. "It wasn't that much of a big factor," he said. "We still got to take the tours and see everything we needed to see."

Scott White was Charles' host, while Stanley Daniels hosted Bush. "We didn't do much with Scott and Stanley at night," Charles said. "But Scott was great. He told me that it's a good place to be up there and that it would be worth it to come up." Smith added that he felt Reggie enjoyed himself on the visit.

Smith echoed the statements of the rest of the visiting prospects when talking about the coaching staff. "That was probably the highlight for me, talking to the coaches," Charles said. "I get along with them really well." He talked for a bit with receivers coach Bobby Kennedy. "We just went through the basics, just the things I would need to expect if I committed there."

Charles didn't feel pressure to commit, nor did he feel at any time like it was the right thing for him to do. "I'm pretty focused on Oregon and Washington right now, but I'm not ready to make a decision now," he said. "But I don't want to wait too long."

He doesn't have any in-home visits set up and is thinking about possibly setting up a trip to Arizona, but it's safe to say the Huskies and Ducks are locked in another recruiting battle royale.
