Joe Cowan trip report

Joe Cowan is a 6-4, 185-pound athlete from Bellflower (Calif.) St John Bosco, and Cowan went up to Seattle this weekend on his first official visit, to the University of Washington. For Joe, it wasn't chock full of suprises, but that was to be expected. After all, his Dad Tim played for Washington and lives in the Seattle area.

"I had a good time," Joe told Dawgman.com. "I'd pretty much seen everything before but I got to learn a lot more about the academics and the support that they have for you, so that was nice." Cowan is thinking of a career in the pharmaceutical industry.

One of the things that Cowan did get to see was the Space Needle, and he enjoyed it up there. "I had been to it before, but never up by the restaurant," he said. "When we got out of the elevator I had to do a little bit of a double-take, because it was moving. It was cool to sit down and watch it turn."

Casey Paus was Joe's host. "Casey just told me about how the offense is and how it takes a while to learn it, but they give reps to everybody so you get things down." While Joe is definitely a receiver, the Huskies love his potential on the other side of the ball too. "I talked to Coach (Bobby) Hauck. They like me a lot on defense as a free safety. They like my athleticism and how I can make plays, like interceptions and tackles."

The Huskies reiterated their offer to Joe, but he was never going to bite on his visit. "I knew going up there that I wasn't going to make a decision this weekend." Bobby Whithorne is a player Joe talked to a bit. "Bobby's cool," Cowan said. "He didn't really tell me to go to Washington or anything. He just encouraged me to do what I feel is right."

Even though Cowan doesn't have any other official trips set up yet he's expecting to make other visits before a decision is reached.
