Huskies still pursuing Washington

Last weekend one of the top defensive backs in the Evergreen State, Kennedy CB Nolan Washington, made a commitment to Washington State. This weekend he heads east to check out the Cougars' football program and the campus, but in the meantime a school closer to home has been making a bit of a push on the gifted cornerback. Will the new interest make Washington rethink his decision?

"I'm heading to Washington State this weekend and actually I just finished packing," Washington told on Thursday night. "I'm going to miss the snow we are going to get over (on the west side of the mountains), but Pullman will have plenty of snow for me too, so I'm going to bundle up."

After his commitment to the Cougars, Washington said that he wasn't going to look at other programs, but he said that the Huskies' new head coach started to pique his interest a bit on Monday.

"That was a good press conference," Washington said of new Husky head coach Steve Sarkisian's opening meeting with the Seattle media. "His passion and how fiery he is, he's a guy who can go in there and get things turned around.

"Plus he came from USC, so he's got to be a good coach and someone that would be fun to play for."

Recently, the only coach rumored to be held over from Tyrone Willingham's staff, Chris Tormey, made his way down to Burien to visit with Lancers head coach Bob Bourgette and Washington's name came up several times.

"Coach Tormey told my coach that they really like me a lot and he came and got my senior highlight film on Wednesday," Washington noted. "He said he thinks they will probably offer me after coach Sarkisian sees my tape.

"I will listen to them and keep an open mind, but I'm committed to Washington State."

In addition to his offer from Washington State, Washington claimed offers from UNLV, Minnesota, Arizona State and Boise State.

We'll continue to keep track of Washington's progress over the next eight weeks and update things if they change.
