Boyd turns his eyes to the Huskies

While USC consistently pretty much cleans up on southern California prospects, one that they nabbed a commitment from during the summer is now looking around. Jordan (Los Angeles) High School DE James Boyd recently scheduled four official visits and the first one on tap is a trip to Montlake to check out Washington.

"Things are going great for me right now," Boyd told Dawgman.com. "I'm just enjoying Christmas break and getting ready to take some visits next month."

Washington offered Boyd very early in the process, but the talented defensive end, who is also a solid quarterback as well, committed to the Trojans in late June.

However, with the hiring of Steve Sarkisian as the new Husky head coach, Boyd has begun to take an interest in Washington and helping that is his close friend, St. John Bosco QB and current Washington commit Keith Price.

"Keith is working on my to visit with him, but I don't think I'm going there the same weekend," Boyd said. "I'm going up to Seattle the first weekend we can visit in January (the 9th - 11th) and I'm real interested in checking them out and seeing what Washington is all about.

"I know coach Sark from when he was at SC and I know he's going to be coaching them through the Rose Bowl. He's real energetic and real fiery which is cool and his intensity rubs off on guys."

In addition to his visit to Seattle, Boyd also said he has visits scheduled for Oregon State (Jan. 16th), USC (Jan. 23rd) and Arizona State (Jan. 30th).

"I'm still committed to SC, but I want to make sure that it's the right decision for me," Boyd said. "I wanted to check out other programs and see how they compare to USC and then I can make an informed decision."

Boyd finished his senior year by amassing over 100 tackles and eight sacks for Jordan while also earning City Section Defensive Lineman of the Year as well as First Team All-League and First Team All-Region for his efforts.

We'll continue to track Boyd's progress over the next month and update things as they happen.
