Huskies still talking with Hauptmann

It's been a while since we've been able to catch up with Beverly Hills OL prospect Caylin Hauptmann and he's been a busy young man. He helped pave the way for the Normans' playoff run and he's been hearing from schools from across the country and he could be closing in on some new offers.

"Syracuse is still my only offer, but some other schools are close I think," Hauptmann told "UCLA, Washington, Utah, Illinois, Cal, San Jose State and USC have all called me the past couple weeks and I think a couple of them could be pretty close to offering."

The old Husky coaching staff was on Hauptmann quite a bit over the summer, but they hadn't offered the big interior offensive lineman.

Apparently, the new staff likes him a little bit more and he said he spoke with new offensive line coach Jim Michalczik late last week.

"I talked to him for a little while and he said he likes me a lot," Hauptmann said. "They are evaluating a lot of prospects, so he said they are working on getting some offers out and I'm right there for one, but they haven't offered me yet.

"They like me as an interior lineman, like guard or something, but they know I can play almost anywhere along the line."

Another school close to offering is San Jose State and he has a trip set up to visit the Spartans on January 9th.

"They're after me and my teammate, David Saedi, and if they offer both of us on our trip I think that's where we are going to go," Hauptmann said. "I would love to play with him for another four years, we are good friends, so playing with someone you know and trust, that's a big thing."

We'll continue to track Hauptmann's progress over the next month and update things as they change.
