Holt to be new Defensive Coordinator

Both the Seattle Times and Seattle P-I have confirmed that USC Defensive Coordinator Nick Holt will be named to the same position at the University of Washington Tuesday afternoon at a press conference. Holt had denied reports as late as Sunday about taking the job, but is in Seattle right now and is expected to be hired on to new Head Coach Steve Sarkisian's staff.

Holt will also assume the title of Assistant Head Coach.

Holt's move from Los Angeles to Seattle marks another Trojan defection, as Sarkisian has hired Holt, Director of Football Operations Dennis Slutak, Assistant Director of Football Operations Jared Blank and two members of USC's strength and conditioning staff - Ivan Lewis and Charr Gahagan.

It's unclear whether Holt will coach a position along with his duties as defensive coordinator, but has coached both the defensive line and the linebackers at USC. He also has coached at UNLV and Louisville, along with his time at Idaho.

Holt just completed the third year as defensive coordinator at USC, where he worked alongside Sarkisian, the Trojans' former offensive coordinator. Together, under head coach Pete Carroll, they helped lead USC to its NCAA-record seventh straight 11-win season, a seventh consecutive Pac-10 title and seven BCS bowl berths in a row. The Trojans beat Penn State Thursday for their unprecedented third straight Rose Bowl victory.

"This is very exciting for Husky football," Sarkisian said. "I don't think we could have found a more qualified or successful defensive coordinator anywhere in the country."

"Coach Sarkisian has been working tirelessly to recruit and to hire coaches," said Scott Woodward, UW director of athletics. "This hire is a clear reinforcement of the confidence I have in him to put together a top-notch coaching staff."

We'll have more on this breaking news Tuesday during Holt's press conference.
