Big back commits to Dawgs

Washington's recruiting efforts have paid off big early on as they got good news on Monday when Narbonne (Harbor City, Ca.) RB Melvin Davis committed to them after receiving an offer from the Husky coaching staff last week. Read on to find out more...

"I can confirm that Melvin has committed to the University of Washington," Narbonne coach Byron Moore, Sr. told Monday evening. "He actually just did it while he was talking to the Washington coaches on the phone.

"I'm not sure if they are looking at him on defense, but I know they want to give him a look at runnning back as a big back.

"He's a guy who doesn't go down easy and we gave him the ball on 3rd-and-two or 4th-and-one and he could be counted on the get the first down every time."

Last year as a junior, Davis rushed 458 yards and eight touchdowns while also posting 27 tackles, three sacks and an interception on defense.

"The coaches up there really like how he catches the ball and how quick and physical he is," Moore said. "Melvin is really excited and we knew last week he was going to commit, but he just wanted to talk things over for a little bit."

Davis joins Lakes DT Sione Potoae and O'Dea FB Zach Fogerson as the third commitment to Washington's 2010 class.
