Riva takes in Husky win over WSU

He was supposed to head to Westwood this weekend to take in UCLA's Junior Day, but instead, O'Dea (Seattle) OL Ben Riva decided to he wanted to be at Hec Ed with some other top local juniors to watch the Husky hoops team win the Pac 10 championship if they could be cross-state rival Washington State. He called Dawgman.com after he returned home and he said the visit couldn't have gone better..

"It was a really great time," Riva said after he returned from Washington's Junior Day. "I got to sit down with the coaches and with coach (Dan) Cozzetto again and he talked about what he's looking for in his offensive lineman and what scheme he likes to run.

"It was me and Jase Butorac from Skyline and Danny Fleischman from Issaquah and (Julious) Moore from Bellevue and Mike Marboe from Wenatchee and a couple of other guys too, so it was real good group of guys there."

Riva said that he again had thoughts of making a commitment running through his mind, but he decided to be patient and take all things into consideration.

"The coaches and their attitude make you want to commit and I thought about it again, but I really want to focus on getting stuff done with my team and make sure that I am doing that first," Riva said. "That way I can focus on recruiting a little bit later and make sure I'm making the best decision that I can."

Riva had planned to visit UCLA this weekend, but he delayed that trip in order to visit Washington so he's hoping to head down for the Bruins' spring practices next month in order to get a feel for how they do things in Westwood.

"I'm heading down there in April so I really want to check them out," Riva said. "Nebraska has been sending me a lot of stuff lately, so they are definitely a school I want to look at and possibly Northwestern and Oregon as well."

Riva also mentioned he plans to take in a few Husky spring practices as well and while he wouldn't put a timeline on things, he said he's like to make a decision before his senior season begins.

We'll have more from Riva over the coming weeks and update news as it happens.
