Young relieved after making commitment

He's considered one of the top prospects in the state of Washington and this weekend, after reports of his imminent commitment to the Huskies came to light on Friday, Auburn S/LB Chris Young called Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian and gave his verbal commitment becoming the fourth athlete to snap up an offer from the Dawgs for the 2010 class.

"I called Washington (Saturday) and I spoke with coach (Steve) Sarkisian," Young told Sunday night. "I told him I was ready to end things and I was ready to be a Dawg.

"He was real excited and really loud and he said 'Yeah that's what I've been waiting for!'."

Young is a player who could excel at almost any position on the football field if you take a look at his production from his junior year where he posted 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground while catching four passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns and throwing one touchdown pass on offense, but it was his performance as a hard-hitting safety that he made his name notching 62 tackles and two interceptions for a team that went 11-1.

"They want me at linebacker and I'm real comfortable with that," Young said. "Honestly, this is just a huge relief because now I can focus on things and just make sure I have everything wrapped up and ready to go this time next year."

One thing Young addressed was his academics and the work he's put in over the past six months.

"I've been meeting with my academic advisors about what I need to get done and we've set up a plan to get me where I need to be," Young said. "We've been focused on it for a while now and it's why I think there was some delay in me getting an offer from Washington, but I've made a lot of progress and I'm doing what we have set up for me to get done."

Young said the only other school recruiting him hard to this point is Washington State, but they haven't yet made an offer, meaning the Huskies are his only one.

"I'm done," Young said. "I know guys make commitments and then start looking around again later, but my dad is so excited about this because he will get to watch me play and he can go to all the games, so I'm not going to switch it up.

"I'm a Husky and I'm really excited and really relieved."
