Huskies are the first to offer Tanigawa

A player just starting to show up on some recruiting radars is Loyola (Los Angeles) OL Colin Tanigawa. Washington recently got into the mix by extending him an offer and right now they occupy the top of his recruiting list, but more schools have picked up the pace and could extend offers in the near future...

"I was really surprised that Washington offered me," Tanigawa told Tuesday evening. "I hadn't even heard from them yet, but coach (Nick) Holt and my line coach had been talking and he told my coach to have me call them.

"When I called them I got to talk to coach (Steve) Sarkisian and he told me they really liked how quick off the ball I am and my athletic ability."

Tanigawa said that the Huskies offered him as an interior offensive lineman, but he will play anywhere a school wants him.

"I play tackle right now, but I think they want me at guard," Tanigawa said. "I can play anywhere a school wants me and I'll do whatever they need me to do. I just want to do what gets me on the field the fastest and they've been doing this a lot longer than I have so if they think that's where I should play then that's where I'll play."

In addition to the offer from the Huskies, Tanigawa is in constant contact with Arizona and Oregon and UCLA has been picking up the pace as well.

"I talk with Oregon by email all the time," Tanigawa said. "I also am emailing a lot with Arizona's offensive line coach and he told me that they are really interested in me and will have their eyes on me this summer."

Tanigawa said he plans to take in the USC and UCLA camps and would like to schedule a visit to Washington either in the summer or definitely during the season.

"I know Washington is a good academic school, but that's about all I know right now," Tanigawa said. "I'm going to start looking into what they have to offer and I'd like to get up there this summer for an unofficial visit, but if not I will take an official there during our bye week during the season.

"I don't really have a time when I want to make my decision, but right now Washington is at the top because they've offered me. I'm open to everyone and I just want to take a little time to see who else offers and recruits me and then I will start to figure out when I want to make my commitment to a school."

We'll continue to check in on Tanigawa and update things as recruiting kicks into high gear this month.
