Gottschalk interested in Washington

Playing at one of the top programs in the Golden State, Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) OL Ben Gottschalk is a player that already has plenty of eyes on him. One school that has made an early impression on him is the Washington Huskies and although they haven't extended an offer his way he's still intent on coming to Seattle this summer to take part in their Rising Stars camp...

"Washington has been recruiting me a little and I know the coaches from when they were at USC," Gottschalk told recently. "Coach (Nick) Holt and I got to know each other when I was at USC's camp and he's a great coach so I'm interested in them."

Gottschalk already has three offers to his name and he said other schools have begun to show more interest including Washington.

"Duke, Oregon and Arizona are the main ones right now recruiting me that haven't offered me yet," Gottschalk said. "UNLV, San Diego State and New Mexico State have offered and then I get a lot of recruiting stuff from UCLA, Cal, Washington and a few other schools too."

Gottschalk said all the schools recruiting him seem to like him on either side of the ball, but most tend to like him at defensive end.

"I'm 252 right now and because of my size a lot of schools like me on defense," Gottschalk said. "I don't really care where I play because I play both ways, so I just want to make sure I get to play as early as possible and if that's on defense then that's where I'll go play."

Gottschalk intends to take in USC and Washington's camps this summer and hopes to have some more offers so he can make his decision before his senior season begins.

"I'm still a high school football player and here at Notre Dame, your focus is always on going to the playoffs and winning the CIF," Gottschalk said matter-of-factly. "So really I'd like to get my offers this summer and then make my commitment to a school before my senior season so I can focus totally on that and not have to worry about things."

We'll have more from Gottschalk in the coming weeks and months and update things as they happen.
