Hawes Hosts "Pasta Feed 2009" For Charity

SEATTLE – Sacramento Kings center Spencer Hawes and the University of Washington present an evening filled with pasta, music and celebrities on the eve of the "Rock-n-Roll Seattle Marathon and Half-Marathon" to benefit former Husky athlete, Andrew Moritz who is battling Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor, a rare type of cancer that has affected less than 100 people worldwide.

The Pasta will hit the plates in two seatings 4pm & 6pm on Friday, June 26th at Univ. of Washington's Conibear Shellhouse located at the east end of campus near Husky Stadium.

Table sponsorships for this pre-race, pasta dinner are $200 for a 10-person table, and includes all you can eat pasta, bread, salad, beverages and a raffle. Admission to ‘Pasta Feed 2009' is a donation of $10 for all Rock-n-Roll Seattle Marathoners and children 12 and under. Individual tickets for non-runners are available at a cost of $20.

"Pasta Feed 2009" sponsored by Spiro's Pizza & Pasta and Univ. of Washington's Big W Club will include music, mingling with past and present Univ. of Washington athletes including Husky Head Men's Basketball Coach Lorenzo Romar, Former Husky and NBA Draft prospect Jon Brockman, NY Knicks guard, Univ. of Washington alum and 2009 NBA Slam Dunk Champion Nate Robinson and Portland Trail Blazer guard Brandon Roy. The dinner will help defray cancer treatment expenses for former UW athlete Andrew Moritz who has several friends running to raise money for him in this year's 2009 Rock-n-Roll Seattle Marathon.

"I'm not a marathoner but I have several friends who are running for a cause and a person who is in a similar situation as Drew," said Hawes, who was drafted #10 overall after his freshman year at UW by the NBA's Sacramento Kings in 2007. "The camaraderie among marathoners is the same as critically-ill patients. We are all in this together. I want them to leave that dinner with a body ready for that race and the feeling they are not in this race alone."
