Roberson considering Washington

Washington is in hot pursuit of at least two more running backs this year and one of the big backs out of the Golden State this year they have offered is Newbury Park (Ca.) RB Cameron Roberson. Dawgman.com caught up with the talented prospect on Monday night and he updated us on where things stand...

As a junior in 2008, Roberson ran for 1,452 yards on 226 carries and scored 18 touchdowns while posting 29 receptions for 279 yards and three more scores. For his efforts he was named First Team All-Marmonte League, First Team All-Ventura County, Team Co-MVP and Team Offensive Player of the Year.

"I had a good season last year," Roberson admitted humbly. "I think I can have a bigger year this year, but that's all about putting the work in this past spring and this summer to get ready to do that."

Roberson's size makes him an ideal candidate to be one of the better big backs in the country this fall.

"I've got good size and vision, so that helps me to run between the tackles, but I also have enough speed (4.48) to get outside," Roberson said. "I consider myself a versatile back who can get out in space and catch the ball, but I can also be physical and get the tough yards inside."

Recruiting has hit a fever-pitch for Roberson of late. He's gotten offers from eight schools including Washington.

"Northwestern, BYU, Minnesota, Colorado State, Arizona, Utah and Wyoming are my other ones," Roberson said. "I'd say right now I'm favoring Washington, Northwestern and Arizona and I'd like to get up to Seattle to check out Washington because I'm not sure if I will wait until I take some official visits or if I will decide before my senior season.

"I haven't set up a time when I can make it up there though and I might not be able to do it, but coach (Jimmie) Dougherty is working on me to come up and visit so I'm really going to try."

Roberson said he'd like to major in either Business or go Pre-Med, so he said those two programs and their quality at each school will go a long way in deciding where he ends up.

We'll have more in the next few weeks from Roberson and update things as they happen.
