Huskies still in it for McConico

One of the more explosive running backs in the state of California this fall promises to be Compton's James McConico. His electrifying runs have him squarely in the sights of several D-1 programs and in the middle of things are the Washington Huskies, according to the talented runner.

"Honestly, no one leads for me," McConico told recently. "I mean, why would I limit things right now. It's still early and I want to go through the whole process.

"I'm really having fun with it. I'm playing football and I'm getting a lot of people looking at me and I can get a free education because of it."

Washington, Nebraska, Oregon, Arizona State, Colorado, San Jose State and UCLA are the schools who have extended offers and he's been hearing from Notre Dame, USC, Arizona and several others.

"U-Dub is in it for me, most definitely," McConico said. "They have been on me from almost the beginning and they need running backs. They told me they like my explosiveness and how quickly I can get in and out of my cuts.

"I haven't set up an official visits yet, so really I haven't narrowed anything down, but as we get closer to season, I will sit down with my family and my coach and we'll figure out who will get official visits and that will pretty much be my top five right there."

As junior in 2008, McConico ran for 1,234 yards on only 62 carries, scoring 14 touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 115 yards, a robust 57.5 average, and scored on both of them.

We'll have more from this talented back down the road, but it appears the Huskies will be in the mix for his services until he makes his decision.
