Huskies still lead for Kohler

The good news for the Huskies is that they still lead in the recruiting battle for Oaks Christian OT Erik Kohler. The not so good news is that Notre Dame has made up a ton of ground and he now says they rate number two on his overall list. So what's up next for the talented tackle prospect from California? Read on to find out...

"It was a great, great visit," Kohler told shortly after arriving home from his trip to South Bend to visit Notre Dame. "They campus was awesome and I got to meet with the coaches and just get to know the program a little better.

"I flew out there on Wednesday night and the first thing I did was have dinner with some of the o-linemen. Then on Thursday I got a tour of the campus, met with the coaches (Polian, Verducci and Weis) and just got to see the facilities and stuff like that."

Did Notre Dame put any pressure on to commit while he was on campus?

"Not at all," Kohler said. "They were really respectful of me and about my process I'm going through. They just showed me what the school had to offer and said they would love to have me."

With that visit, the Irish have definitely made up some ground and now occupy his second favorite position.

"Washington is still my leader, but Notre Dame is now number two," Kohler said. "This isn't just because I just got done visiting them. I mean, that helps, but I already knew about the program and their history, but going there and seeing it up close, it really sold me a lot on them and vaulted them over the other two (Cal and UCLA)."

Kohler said he still plans to visit Washington the second week of August and hopes to bring Nick Montana, his quarterback and a Washington verbal commit, with him.

"I'm planning to decide shortly after that trip if it happens," Kohler said. "I'm really going to try and do it, but I just have to make sure it works with my schedule."

We'll continue to track Kohler's progress and update things and news happens.
