Willing's recruitment heats up

Dawgman.com spoke Thursday night with RJ Willing, a 6-5, 300-pound offensive lineman from Honolulu (Hawaii) Kamehameha and RJ gave us the goods surrounding his in-home visits and the rest of his official visits. Willing has become a recruit a lot of top colleges are looking hard at.

"Monday afternoon, the Utah DL coach, Tuiasosopo, came by," RJ said. "He said the perfect scenario for them would be for me to come in for my first year and then go on my mission.

Then on Monday night, Coach Reynolds from BYU came by we talked for a while, mostly about my upcoming visit. He told me what to expect and what it's going to be like." Like the Utes, BYU also is looking for Willing to play one year in Provo and then take his mission.

Wednesday, Willing entertained his first head coach, Mike Bellotti from Oregon. "He came to my house to meet my parents," RJ said. "He said that eventually I would end up playing alongside Enoka (Lucas, former teammate of Willing's at Kamehameha) and that it would be a perfect situation for me. They don't care when I take my mission."

The only school that's asking RJ to defer his mission until after his football career is over is Washington. "Coach (Brent) Myers was supposed to come by for a visit, but he couldn't make it. Coach Hart is on the islands to see Wilson (Afoa), so he came by school just to say Hi and to catch up on all that's going on. Coach Myers is planning on coming this next week." Head Coach Gary Crowton from BYU and Neal Zoumboukos from Oregon will also visit RJ this coming week.

At this point Willing can't name a leader. "I will take all my trips and then decide. They are all on level ground right now. I need to think about it before making my decision."

Willing goes to BYU this weekend, Utah next weekend and then Hawaii for his final official visit.
