Taft DE talks about Husky offer

Yesterday, thanks to Scout.com West Coast Recruiting Analyst Brandon Huffman, we learned that Taft (Woodland Hills, Ca.) DE/LB Brent Williams received an offer from the Huskies. Dawgman.com caught up with the talented pass-rusher and he updated us on his conversation with head coach Steve Sarkisian and what other schools are also close to extending offers...

"I spoke with coach Sarkisian last night," Williams told Dawgman.com on Thursday morning. "Basically we had him on speaker phone and he said he was wanting to talk to me and let me know how much they want me and like what I can do.

"He was talking to me about where they want to play me and how they always need players who can rush the quarterback and get after it and that they want me as a linebacker/defensive end. Basically I would be able to do both in their system."

Williams has been to camps at USC, Virginia Tech and Penn State as well as Scout.com's So Cal Combine, but Washington was the first school to offer. How did it feel to get that first offer out of the way?

"Oh man, I almost cried," a relieved Williams said. "It was like 'finally, my hard work is paying off'. I am real excited about it and it makes me feel like I've made it and I just need to work harder.

"A lot of the schools looking at me have said they wanted to check out the first three or four games of my senior year because of my size and actually Washington was that way too, but then I got the call and now Washington is right at the top of my list."

Williams notched 59 tackles, 17 sacks and 29 tackles-for-loss as a junior defensive end for Taft last fall.

"I played at 170 last year and I'm 203 right now," Williams said. "I've put on 30 pounds and actually I think I'm faster just because I've added muscle and that has helped me a lot."

Williams said he plans to set up his official visit to Washington very soon and it could be early in the season, but he's unsure at this point.

"I definitely want to get up there and check things out," Williams said. "That first offer means a lot to me, it's something I won't forget, but I'm going to take my time and make a decision later.

"I want to check out the campus and meet with the coaches. I've never been to that area before so it's real important for me to get that official visit down."

We'll have more from Williams in the future as he gets started on his season and update news as it happens.
