Trip Report: Victor Burnett

Washington's game versus LSU wasn't just important from a perception standpoint with fans and college football pundits across the country, it has also elevated their status with recruits, especially those in attendance on Saturday. Culver City (Ca.) LB Victor Burnett was one of six official visitors for the game and he came away even more impressed with them than he already was...

"I had a great time," Burnett told as he waited at Sea-Tac Airport for his plane to board. "The coaches and the players were all jacked up, the atmosphere was great, they almost beat LSU and they just looked like a really fun team.

"I got to sit down with coach (Mike) Cox, coach (Nick) Holt and coach (Steve) Sarkisian and they just said they really needed physical linebackers and how much they wanted me and needed me in the program."

Burnett's host on his trip was Mason Foster and he said the two bonded well.

"He was a great guy," Burnett said. "He talked to me straight up about things there and how they are changing the culture. They expect to win every game, no matter who they play and with that attitude I think they will win a lot of games.

"I mean, they stuck with LSU and they actually should have one or at least they could have won. I mean, they are going to surprise some people this year."

Burnett said he didn't get the notion to commit to the Huskies, but the visit did a lot in boosting their status with him.

"I was already really high on Washington, but now I'm as high as I can be about them," Burnett said. "They really impressed me with everything. From the facilities, to the coaches, to the players, to the atmosphere. It's a great place to play football."

Burnett said he plans to take the rest of his visits before he makes his final decision and that he isn't sure which of his other myriad suitors will get the next visit.

"I'm going to take my time and make the right decision, but Washington is definitely going to be there until the end," Burnett said.

We'll continue to keep track of him as the season moves along. Burnett and his teammates kick off their season this Friday night with a game against St. Bernard at home.
