Cooper Commits

Deontae Cooper, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound running back from Citrus Hill High School in Perris, Calif., has verbally committed to Washington over offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Fresno State, Nebraska and Stanford. Cooper is rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 23 running back in the nation by Scout.com.

"I know I said I wanted to wait but the more I thought about it, it just seemed like Washington was the best fit for me," Cooper told Greg Biggins of ESPN Rise on Wednesday. "I talked things over with my dad and my coaches and we looked at all my options and I don't think I could find a better situation than Washington."

Cooper sparked a 42-13 win over Lakeside (Lake Elsinore, Ca.) this past weekend with 259 yards rushing and three touchdowns. He also had one reception for 15 more yards and a kickoff return for 60 yards.

As a junior, Cooper stood atop the state leaderboard in rushing yards with 2,953 yards and finished second in touchdowns with 47. He ran for 1,212 yards and 18 touchdowns during his sophomore season, helping lead Citrus Hill to the CIF-SS title.
