Vainuku will visit UW after the season

It's been a while since we've talked to Eureka (Ca.) FB/LB Soma Vainuku but that's because the talented athlete from Northern California has been focused on his season. Dawgman.com caught up with Vainuku recently and he updated us on things including when he plans to visit the Huskies as well as the other schools he's got his eyes on.

"I've been totally focused on my season," Vainuku told Dawgman.com. "I wanted this to be the best season yet, but we're off to a bad start. We're 1-2 and this last game I had almost 150 yards and two touchdowns, but we lost on some bad calls toward the end.

"We really have to bounce back and not lose another game, otherwise we're not going to make the post season."

Recruiting has also been put on hold to a certain extent for Vainuku, although he said he's got three trips in mind, although none have been set up officially yet.

"I'm looking at possibly visiting Arizona State this weekend, but I haven't talked to their coaches yet so I'm not sure if it will happen," Vainuku noted. "I'm also going to visit USC and Washington, but those won't be until after the season."

It's worth noting that USC hasn't offered yet, but with the Huskies as one of his first offers, Vainuku has had his eye on what they have been up to.

"I watched the USC game live and I just watched the LSU game the other day," Vainuku said. "I was real impressed with the team and the fans were nuts in both of those games. The camera just shook. It was crazy. That was a huge win for them and you can see they are going to get back a lot faster than people think."

Vainuku said he's unsure of the other two schools he'll officially visit, but he said he plans to take all five of his visits and then sit down with his family and make his decision.

Vainuku and his teammates take on Ukiah on Friday night.
