Malele breaks down his options spoke Monday night with Carson, California DT Matt Malele about his final decision and what it will take for him to pull the trigger on the school of his choice. It has been an interesting few days, as he didn't make a scheduled trip to Arizona State and has replaced an old west coast favorite with two new ones.

"I've narrowed my choices down to four - California, Tennessee, Penn State and Washington," Malele said. "I've been on visits to all the schools except Cal, but I have a brother who goes to school up there so I've been there a lot."

Matt broke down each school with a comment on why he likes them.

California - "I'll get an opportunity to play there and it's close. There are guys I know, like Junior Lemau'u, Brandon Mebane, and one of my teammates, Brandon Myles, who will be going there."

Tennessee and Penn State - "Just the atmosphere at those places, they are real college towns. They are big-time programs."

Washington - "I like Coach (Rick) Neuheisel. He's a caring coach who wants all of his players to succeed. I replaced Oregon with them. I dropped Oregon."

Why did Matt drop the Ducks? "I lost interest in them," he said simply.

Malele will have some visitors this week. "Arizona State came by my school today. I was thinking about them, but just for a moment. And Coach (Jeff) Tedford from Cal is coming on Wednesday. Coach (Larry) Slade (Tennessee) is going to be here on Thursday and then Coach (Joe) Paterno, Penn State) on Friday."

So what will Matt be looking for in the next week or so before coming to a final decision? "Well, I plan on making my decision at the end of the week or at the beginning of next week at the very latest," he said. "I'll just be looking for the best fit, what feels right. Every school has something to offer that's different. I'll be consulting with my parents a lot before I make my choice."
