Clanton sets trip to UW

After watching what happened in South Bend last weekend, the cry has been made by the Husky faithful for more mean and nasty players up front. The young man who might just fit that mold is CCSF OL Ryan Clanton who scheduled a visit to Washington and will be in town this weekend to meet with the coaches...

"Coach (Dan) Cozzetto and I talked and they've been on me for a little while," Clanton told "We've gotten to know each other pretty well and I watched their game against Notre Dame last weekend. If they had gotten a touchdown they would have won that game and that's something that really got me interested in Washington because they are losing one of their tackles so I would have a chance to go in there and challenge for playing time right away.

"(Cozzetto) told me that they really like me and how physical I am. They said they like that I have a nasty streak and that's something I take pride in. I don't really realize I'm doing it, but something is different about me when I get out on the field and I just get after guys. It's what makes football so fun to play."

Clanton prepped at Bakersfield High School in California and was a non-qualifier out of high school so he realizes that's one of the reasons he hasn't gotten an offers yet.

"Washington has talked about offering, but they said they need to go through my transcripts to make sure I have the grades and the right classes," Clanton said. "I'm sure my gradepoint is just fine, but they also need to make sure I have the right classes. We'll see how it works out, but I definitely am excited to get up there to visit them and meet with the coaches and see the area.

"I've heard a lot of great things about Washington and what Seattle is like. I'm also interested in learning more about their history and their facilities and what I could do there."

Besides Washington, Clanton is getting heavy interest from Oregon, Syracuse, Southern Miss and Arizona State.

"I was actually supposed to visit Oregon this weekend, because it's my bye week, but it turns out they are down in L.A. to play UCLA, so that's why I decided on Washington," Clanton said. "I'll visit them in November (the 28th) and see what they are about and then I'll try and set something up with Syracuse and the other two as well.

"My coaches just keep telling me to be patient. If a school is the first to offer me, that would be big and it definitely will play a part in where I end up, but I want to be patient and decide after I've taken my visits."

As mentioned earlier, Clanton will sign with a school in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.

We'll get a whole trip report from Clanton on Sunday after he returns from his visit.
