Trip Report - Shaquille Richardson

One of the top corners on the west coast was in town this week to watch the Huskies take on Oregon and he came away impressed with things even if the score of the game wasn't what he was looking for. Dawgman.com caught up with the talented defensive back prospect and he talked about his visit and especially what impressed him the most...

Richardson visited Washington over the summer to take in two days of their summer camp. He got coached up by the staff while he was on campus last time so this time it was all about meeting with the team and getting a feel for the program as a whole.

"The coaches are really great up here and I already felt real comfortable with them," Richardson told Dawgman.com on Sunday as he was preparing the fly home. "This time I wanted to talk with the players and get a feeling for how tight they are as a team and to get to know them a little bit."

Richardson had two hosts on his visit and said both showed him exactly what he had hoped to see.

"Will Shamburger was me and (Niu Sale's) host the first night," Richardson said. "The second night was Desmond Trufant who is playing my position so I really got to sit down and talk with him, plus he's from the area so he really sorta broke things down for me on how things are.

"He said the coaches came in and really have made the players believe they can play with anyone and that they just need to keep working hard in order to get better."

Richardson admitted that Husky Stadium was something that impressed him on the visit.

"That place was real hyped up and it was an amazing place to play ball," Richardson said. "The players had a ton of energy early on and during the warmups. The game wasn't exactly what we were hoping to see, but it was a good thing to see how hard they fought even when they were down."

So while he was on campus, did he think about committing?

"Not really," Richardson admitted. "I wanted to meet with the coaches and I did. They told me they needed more corners they felt they could play press and man-to-man with and that I was a guy they really liked a lot in that role.

"I want to take my visits though and get all the information I can and then I'll decide."

We'll have more from Richardson down the road as the recruiting process continues.
