Taula is focused on the playoffs

It's been a while since we've had a chance to catch up with Servite (Anaheim, Ca.) DT Kirifi Taula, so there was a lot to catch up on. The talented defensive tackle and his teammates are headed to the playoffs so that's where his focus lies, but he's also been thinking about recruiting and he updated us on which three Pac 10 schools he's sure will get a visit after the season is complete...

"Things have been going good, we have the playoffs starting this weekend," Taula told Dawgman.com recently. "We finished the season 9-1 and this weekend we have San Clemente coming up in the first round, so that's where my attention really is right now. I'm not thinking a lot about recruiting."

Even so, Taula did admit that he has thought about which schools he'll officially visit once his season is over.

"Washington, Arizona and Oregon State are the schools I'm planning to visit right now," Taula said matter-of-factly. "I'm also looking at UCLA, Arizona State and a few other schools to visit, but right now I'm not sure on who will get them.

"Oregon State and Arizona both offered me real early in the process and I have a great relationship with the coach who would be my position coach there.

"Coach (Nick) Holt is the one recruiting me from Washington and I've known him since he was at USC so we are really comfortable with each other and we talk a lot.

"I actually just talked to him (Sunday) and he was just checking in and letting me know that he'll be at my game this coming weekend."

The big defensive lineman said he expects to take all five of his visits before he makes his decision and said he expects to commit to a school "sometime in January".

Taula has been a beast inside for the Friars inside, posting 48 tackles and 6.5 sacks this season.

We'll have more in the near future from Taula after he begins the recruiting process in earnest beginning next month.
