Trip Report - Garret Gilliland

Orange (Ca.) Lutheran LB Garret Gilliland made his official visit to Washington this weekend and enjoyed his time on campus. He said getting to know the players and the staff was the big reason he wanted to visit during a game weekend and he came away impressed with what he saw while he was in Seattle.

"It was really cool, I had a lot of fun," Gilliland told Dawgman.com as he waited at Sea-Tac Airport to head back home. "I was pretty set about getting up here for a visit during the season so I could see a game and to check out the atmosphere so that's why I came up this weekend."

Gilliland's host on his visit was LB Cort Dennison and the two sat down and talked about things quite a bit.

"He was a great host for me," Gilliland said. "He's from Utah, so we talked a lot about where we were from and what it was like being a Husky.

"He said the program is so much different now and that their mentality is so much different. He said they think they can do some big things next year and the players are all excited about it."

Gilliland spoke mainly with defensive coordinator Nick Holt and the two talked about how he would be used in the Washington system.

"He told me he liked me as a weakside outside linebacker in their system," Gilliland said.

Gilliland seemed prepared to make a commitment when he came up on his visit, but at this time it's not set in stone.

"I didn't get to speak with coach (Steve) Sarkisian much, but he was really welcoming and talked a lot about the program," Gilliland noted.

Gilliland said he had no plans set to take any more visits at this time.
